Khadija Jayi (b.1989, Morocco)

Khadija Jayi explores socio-political and identity themes, blending beauty with suffering and evasion with obligation. Her art, influenced by her personal journey, captures the tensions of human nature, often using fire as a metaphor for vitality and unhealed wounds. Through a combination of autobiographical elements and a dialogue between tradition and contemporaneity, Jayi creates works that reflect her search for identity and emotional expression. Her pieces, often incorporating paper clippings, photographs, and maps, evoke a “commemorative” physicality that transcends traditional boundaries. Jayi’s art speaks to ancestral rituals and contemporary experiences, with a sensorial refinement that captivates viewers.

Born in Moulay Idriss Zerhoun, Morocco, in 1989, Jayi lives and works in Casablanca. She graduated from the École Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Tétouan in 2018. Her recent exhibitions include the Comptoir des Mines Galerie in Marrakech (2022) and the Musée Mohammed VI d’Art Moderne et Contemporain in Rabat (2021). She was awarded second place at the Mustaqbal Prize in Casablanca (2021) and received the Women Art Award at the International Female Artists Summit in Rome (2023).

Khadija is a 2026 recipient of the Tyburn Foundation Affiliated Fellowship at Civitella Ranieri.
