THE BRIDGE
THE BRIDGE VISUAL ARTS RESIDENCY
The Bridge Visual Arts Residency is a collaborative joint residency project between Tyburn Foundation and artist-founded organisation Animal Farm Artist Residency (Zimbabwe) to build cross-cultural collaboration and dialogue in the visual arts.
Established in 2013 by Zimbabwean artist Admire Kamudzengerere, the Animal Farm Artist Residency is a pioneering initiative seeking to advance the contemporary art dialogue in Zimbabwe and foster positive social change. In Kamudzengerere’s words: “I want it to be a catalyst for positive change, both within Zimbabwe and on a global scale.”
Situated in Chitungwiza, Zimbabwe, Animal Farm is based on permaculture principles and integrates agricultural initiatives to support its community and secure funding for the residency programme. Including a printmaking workshop, the residency offers artists opportunities for creative exchange programmes, studio practice, and community-oriented projects. Artists from around the globe collaborate in a communal environment to experiment, develop their practices and engage in cultural exchange.
The Bridge Visual Arts Residency, hosted and mentored by artist Admire Kamudzengerere, provides early-career artists from Zimbabwe and South Africa with the opportunity to engage with diverse artistic communities, techniques, and cultural contexts.
The Residency will annually support two early-career artists, one from Zimbabwe and one from South Africa for a fully funded 8-week residency dedicated to specialised printmaking training and mentorship based at Animal Farm, as well as exposure to other artists and professionals in the field, and connection with local art scenes and communities.
The first recipients of this residency in 2025 are Mbali Tshabalala (b. 1988, South Africa) and Primrose Panashe Chingandu (b. 1998, Zimbabwe).
