Azu Nwagbogu

Azu is the Founder and Director of the African Artists’ Foundation and the LagosPhoto Festival (Nigeria), and an internationally recognised curator dedicated to decolonisation, restitution and repatriation, and reimagining the role of museums and exhibitions in contemporary society.
In 2021, Azu was named “Curator of the Year” by the Royal Photographic Society (UK) and listed among the 100 most influential people in the art world by Art Review.
He is also the founder and publisher of Art Base Africa, and in 2023 he was appointed “Explorer at Large” by the National Geographic Society.
Most recently, in 2024, Azu curated the inaugural Benin Pavilion at the 60th Venice Biennale.
